Agile Portal

The Coaching Community of Practice (CCP) was tasked with upskilling a multinational investment firm’s I.T. department on agile methodologies. While initial training efforts were progressing, the sheer size of the organization had caused them to become fragmented, with each department working in silos. The CCP realized that consolidating their resources and assets was the first step to making their efforts more cohesive—but was that enough?

Challenge:
A global corporation was struggling with agile adoption as employees found it difficult to embrace the new methodologies. The static and uninspiring training materials were hindering engagement and company-wide learning.

Approach:
I led a research initiative to uncover the specific challenges employees faced in adopting agile practices. By gathering insights, I collaborated with development and design teams to create an engaging portal that seamlessly integrated agile training into daily workflows. The portal featured interactive learning modules and built-in feedback loops to ensure the content remained relevant and adaptable to the diverse needs of teams.

Results:
Within the first year, agile adoption improved by 50%, with employees reporting a 70% increase in their comfort level with agile practices. The portal became an essential tool for continuous learning and was fully integrated into the company’s ongoing improvement strategy.

♫Can we talk for a minute [or 60]?♫

So, we hopped on the first of twWe decided to address this by scheduling two one-hour calls with the team to dive deeper into the challenges they faced with the current intranet system.o, hour-long calls.

Understanding the Problem

We kicked off the call with a set of questions to better understand the issues with the existing portal: What is the problem we’re solving? What do coaches perceive as the main issue? What are the pain points? And, most importantly, what do they need to succeed? We gathered valuable insights as coaches shared their frustrations, needs, and aspirations for a more effective, cohesive resource hub.

During our insights session, the coaches candidly shared their challenges—struggling with resource gathering, assessing the efficacy of upskilling efforts, and how to unify the team around a common mission and vision. They also voiced general pain points and aspirations for ideal outcomes.

I organized these insights onto Post-Its to identify recurring themes, providing a clearer view of their perspectives and helping to guide the next steps in addressing their needs.

But where's the value?

After organizing the feedback through affinity grouping, I developed a value proposition canvas to clearly define how a redesigned intranet could benefit both the CCP and the wider organization by solving key pain points and aligning the team’s efforts.

Crunching the Numbers

With all the insights in place, we crafted a two-pronged solution: validating the CCP's assumptions while enhancing upskilling efforts through feedback loops to drive engagement and improve the impact of agile training across the department.

A Journey Just for Our User

The user journey diagram below outlines the “happy path” for accessing and downloading agile resources from the new intranet. It highlights key pain points and opportunities to streamline the process, making it more intuitive for users.

Site Walkthrough

The updated intranet site is simple, yet effective—guiding users through repositories of agile knowledge and methodologies with ease. The visuals below show the intuitive layout designed to facilitate smooth navigation and access to essential resources.

Site Expansion

As we expanded the intranet to serve the entire I.T. department, the user interface was tailored to support not only the agile methodology hub but also the organization’s broader technology initiatives. The mockup below demonstrates how the site integrates future tech stacks and fosters a more collaborative, effective agile adoption across the global organization.
